Oral Histories
What better way to hear our story than from the people who lived it? From them, we can learn what it felt like to be there, and what was going through their mind as they witnessed history. Their words create a nearly tangible link with the past.
As you go through these oral histories, you may hear some dates, names, or places misremembered. Many of these people are telling their story nearly 80 years after it happened. Oral histories aren’t meant to provide a strictly authoritative account of an event. They give us a perspective on it. Bigger picture details might get fuzzy. But very few forget how they felt or what they saw.
These are their stories.
